Benefits of Signing Up for Earnings Programs on HubPages Immediately

Signing Up for Earnings Programs Immediately is a Good Idea

This Hub is in response to the request by Ironman1992 asking if it is wise to postpone signing up to make money on Hubs until you have a good base of income producing Hubs.

It is true that, for most new Hubbers, it does take a long time before they begin receiving money from their Hubs.

The operative words in the sentence above are receiving money, by which I mean actually receiving checks or deposits to their checking or PayPal accounts. Both Google Adsense and the HubPages Ad Program pay earnings at the end of the month following the month in which the money was earned.

In addition, both Google AdSense and the HubPage Ad Program only pay when the accrued or accumulated earnings at the end of the previous month reaches a minimum threshold which is $100 or more in the case of Google AdSense and $50 or more in the case of the HubPage Ad Program.

If a Hubber’s earnings at the end of the previous month are less than the $100 or $50 minimums, the balance is rolled forward and added to the next month’s earnings. This rolling forward continues until the accumulated total equals or exceeds the respective program's minimum, at which point a check is sent or direct deposit is made at the end of the following month.

So, while a new Hubber’s earnings may be too small for them to begin receiving a check or direct deposit, the small amounts will be accumulating for them and they will receive that money eventually.

By not signing up for the HubPages Ad Program, Google AdSense, Amazon and eBay programs immediately a new Hubber is not only missing out on income accumulation from the start but they also don’t have any idea as to the income generating ability of each of their Hubs.

Sign Up to Start Accumulating Earnings Immediately

Some Hubs will make more money than others because they either attract more readers who click ads or because they attract ads that pay more per click. Some topics tend to attract more traffic than others. Other Hubs may not only attract traffic but also contain higher paying ads.

By signing up for the HubPage Ad Program, Google AdSense, Amazon and eBay ad programs as soon as you join HubPages, you will be able to both start earning income on your Hubs but also get an idea as to what topics are better income generators for you.

If you find a niche topic and produce Hubs on that niche topic you may, if the topic is popular and you are able to quickly attract a loyal following of readers, find that after publishing a few Hubs that you can generate the $100 minimum or more each month from the HubPage Ad Program and/or the Google AdSense program and quickly start receiving checks or deposits to your checking or PayPal accounts.

How I Benefited by Signing Up for Earnings Programs Before Publishing My First Hub

However, my personal experience has been that my Hubs tend to generate a few cents to a few dollars every month. My holiday Hubs generally do well in the month or two before and after the holiday and then generate very little until the holiday rolls around again the next year.

I signed up for the Google AdSense, Amazon and eBay programs as soon as I joined in September of 2006 (the HubPage Ad Program wasn’t available until the Spring of 2011) and published my first Hub on September 22, 2006.

I went on to publish six more Hubs that month. I continued publishing daily, averaging 11 to 12 Hubs per week, through the end of December. By December 31st I had published 158 Hubs. As I increased the number of published Hubs, my earnings each month increased.

However, it wasn’t until mid-December 2006, almost three months since I published my first Hub that my accumulated Google AdSense income passed the $100 mark.

By the end of December my accumulated AdSense income (accumulated between September 22 and December 31, 2006) came to around $120. I received my first check, which amounted to approximately $120) from Google AdSense the last week in January 2007.

That check represented my accumulated Google AdSense earnings from September 22, 2006 to December 31, 2006.

I started January 2007 with a base of 158 Hubs which by then began producing close to Google AdSense's $100 per month for me. Some of the 158 produced nothing while others produced a dollar or more per month. On those 158 I was averaging about forty-five to fifty cents per month in Google AdSense (it was about a year before I started earning money from Amazon and eBay).

My Original Base of Hubs Continued to Generate Income as I Published Additional Hubs

I continued writing, albeit at a slower pace of about five per week and the new Hubs plus the existing base enabled me to generate over $100 every month from January to December of 2007 with the exception of August in which I generated something like $99.96 and had to wait until October to receive those earnings plus my earnings for September from Google.

If I had waited until January to sign up for the earnings programs, I not only would have lost the $120 or so revenue accumulated from September to December 2006 (with no Google AdSense account set up there would have been no where to accumulate the money) and would have had to wait until the end of February to receive he first payment which would have been my earnings for January.

HubPages is a Good Place to Slowly and Steadily Increase Earnings

So my advice is to set up your HubPage Ad Program and Google AdSense immediately and then begin publishing. In my experience this is NOT a get rich quick program.

However, if you write evergreen type Hubs (i.e., Hubs that have ongoing appeal for readers) you will find that over time you will have a growing body of Hubs, many of which will tend to generate a few cents to a few dollars of income month after month for years.

And, as you publish more Hubs your income will increase as your base of income producing Hubs increases.

GDRshop - you are correct assuming a site of my own had the drawing power of HubPages. While, the quality of an individual Hubber's writing, the effective use of key words and individual marketing efforts play a big role in the success of one's Hub's, one also has to take into account the value added by the HubPages team.

In return for the 40% of the revenue we generate that goes to HubPages we get the benefit of traffic resulting from the extensive marketing effort's of the HubPages team as well as spillover traffic generated by the Hubs published by the many top quality writers that have been attracted to the site as a venue for their writing.

There is also the free hosting and the ongoing enhancements and addition of new tools provided to us by HubPages.

These are all costs that a person would have to bear up front when going solo. Further these hosting and maintenance costs would have to be paid regardless of whether or not a person's own site actually produced revenue. With HubPages, one simply shares part of their earnings with HubPages when they have earnings. There is no monetary cost to Hubbers who use the service and publish Hubs that don't generate any revenue.

Robin, thanks for the correction. I should have double checked this but didn't. I have corrected the text in the Hub to reflect this. Thanks again.

Cardisa, as I recall, Beta tesing of the HubPage Ad Program was started in late 2010 or early January 2011 on a trial basis with selected Hubbers participating (I wasn't one of them). If I remember correctly, following the Beta testing, HubPages began phasing the program in starting, I think, in February 2011 with invitations to increasing numbers of Hubbers. I was offered the opportunity to join in late February or early March and it probably was April when it was released to everyone.

Like you, I joined as soon as it was made available to me and have had no regrets.

Hi Chuck, when I joined HP the ad program wasn't yet opened to all hubbers. I joined in January and it was in April that we all were invited into the program. I didn't hesitate to activate the ad program then and I do not regret it at all.

Hi Chuck, you don't have to approve this comment. Just wanted to let you know that the Ad Program is a $50 payout through PayPal, not $100. Thanks for writing the Hub. ;)

iamageniuster - it does take time but, if you keep publishing steadily, it does begin to pay off and for me it has turned into a growing second income. So keep up the good work.

I believe HubPages started in the summer of 2006. I have seen a couple of Hubs and blog or discussion postings describing exactly when the site first started and why "HubPages" was chosen as the name for the site. I didn't discover the site until September of 2006. I joined and began publishing a day or two after I first visited and checked out the site.

Springboard - thanks for visiting and for your comment. I agree with you, even if it is a small amount but accumulating steadily I don't want to walk away from it. I do, however, walk away from sites that don't appear to have good long term earnings potential.

I tend to think of it this way. Even if it's just a few cents, a few cents I didn't have before is worth having. I'm not the type to walk past a penny lying on the ground either. :) Great hub. Rated up and useful.
