What is the Best Pay-As-You-Go Phone Service?

By

It All Depends Upon Your Needs and How Much You Can Afford

January 13, 2010

I presume that you are referring to my Hub entitled What is the Best Pay as You Go Cell Phone Service? in which I attempted to describe some of the various pay as you go cell phone options and my experience with them.

Like other things, there is no perfect cell phone service for everyone. It depends upon what you need in a cell phone and how much you are willing to pay or can afford for cell phone service.

The best way to go about this process is to first determine exactly what you need / want a cell phone for and how you plan to use it. Also, give serious thought to how much you are willing and able to pay for a cell phone service.

If you plan to use this as your only or primary telephone and use the telephone a lot you may want to consider a contract with abundant or even unlimited minutes for a fixed fee.  Since many, but I don't think all, of these services involve a one or two year contract you had better make sure you can afford to pay the monthly fee for the next twelve to twenty-four months.

On the other hand, if you only want a phone for emergencies and plan to use it very little, you should look for a plan where the minutes are good for a few months (i.e., don't expire in four to six weeks) and there are no minimum monthly usage requirements.

Another consideration would be where you plan to use the phone.  If use will be strictly in your home area, a service with usage limited to your local area may be less expensive than one that can be used anywhere in the country or large region with the the country.

However, if you do anticipate a need to use the phone outside your local community a service with nationwide or region wide coverage may be a better deal.

While I can't tell you what would be the best service for your needs and budget, I can recommend that you do some research by visiting cell phone dealers to look at their wares and ask questions as well as doing some research on the web on the various phone services available in your area.

To get you started, below are links to some articles on HubPages that discuss various cell phone service options.
