A Good Breakfast Before Going To Work

Updated on February 6, 2015

My Work Day Breakfast

My Mother was always a big believer in starting the day with a good breakfast. As a result, the habit of starting the day with a good breakfast has been a lifelong habit with me.

For me, breakfast on work days has usually consisted of cereal, fresh fruit or juice, toast or English muffin and a cup of tea or coffee. I have always found this to not only be a tasty combination but it is also nutritious and provides energy to launch my work day.

Currently my work day breakfast consists of oatmeal which I spice up by mixing in some cinnamon and adding a spoonful of honey to sweeten it.

I also add a tablespoon full of cold milled flax.

It doesn’t affect the taste or consistency of the oatmeal but is supposed to be healthy and that keeps my wife and doctor happy.

For fruit, I generally thaw a small bowl of large, frozen blueberries which I mix with yogurt.

I then add two or three tablespoons of un-salted, hulled and roasted sunflower seeds. The sunflower seeds taste good and add some crunch to the mixture.

I round out my breakfast with a cup of coffee in which I add some cinnamon to the grounds before brewing.

In addition to good taste, this breakfast is quick and easy to make as well as keeping me going until lunch which I don’t get to eat until five or six hours later.

On Weekends, A Leisurly Breakfast With My Wife

While I eat alone on work days as I leave for work before my wife wakes up, non-work days are different.

On these days I still get up before my wife but there is no rush to make breakfast quickly and get to work.

On these days I still get up first and then take my time brewing coffee and preparing breakfast for both of us. Some days it is simple consisting of coffee, fruit and toast or pastry.

Other times we may have omelets, fried eggs, french toast, pancakes or scrambled eggs along with some fruit and a toasted English muffin.

My wife is usually awake by the time breakfast is ready so I bring it to her on a table tray so she can eat it in bed. I then get a lap tray for my breakfast and pull up a chair next to our bed where we enjoy a leisurely breakfast and watch TV until we are ready to begin our day.
